How it began
Goldenbridge started with a small group of reporters in Abuja who found themselves frustrated by the same problem again and again: important local stories that needed time and travel simply didn't fit within advertising-driven budgets.
Rather than close the gap with a paywall, we asked readers directly whether they'd help carry the cost of reporting that mattered to them. Enough said yes that the model has held for nearly a decade.
Today the newsroom still runs on that same quiet arrangement — readers who choose to contribute, and reporting that stays open to everyone regardless of whether they do.

Openness first
Every article stays free to read. If the reporting matters, it shouldn't depend on a reader's ability to pay.

Patience over speed
We would rather publish a story a week later and get it right than rush it out for the sake of being first.

Honest accounting
Where contributions go is published monthly, in plain language, without burying the detail in a footnote.
